How to Plan Faculty Workload
Faculty workload should reflect institutional policy and actual academic responsibilities rather than being guessed by the timetable generator.
Daily and weekly limits
Define a maximum number of teaching periods per day, a weekly maximum and, where useful, a target weekly load. The timetable generator should respect these values while assigning distributed subjects.
Occupied periods
A faculty member may be unavailable because of teaching in another department, another building, meetings or other institutional duties. Marking these periods as occupied prevents the generator from assigning a second lecture at the same time.
Review after generation
Compare assigned lectures with target workload and inspect free periods. Under-load or overload should be visible to the HOD or timetable coordinator before the timetable is finalized.
